Big Grid was a site-specific installation, designed for a long wall in the exhibition space of the University of Maine in Orono, that optically weaves together paper strips, both mounted out from the wall and directly glued to it, with their cast shadows. The paper is painted to closely match the color of the cast shadows, producing a hypnotic indeterminacy as to which is which, with the effect of dematerializing the physicality of the wall itself.
